Bitumen distributor & sprayer hire for road works
Well-maintained bitumen distributors operated by a certified, experienced BD team. We spray binders, primes, tack coats and rejuvenators accurately, to your specification and programme.
Accurate bitumen spraying from a certified BD team
A bitumen distributor (also called a bitumen sprayer or BD) applies a controlled layer of bituminous binder across a road surface. The quality of that layer decides how well the next layer bonds, how well a seal holds its aggregate and how long the surface lasts. Uneven spraying causes bleeding in some areas and stripping in others.
Mahanke Civils & Projects runs its own fleet of bitumen distributors. Every unit is well designed and properly maintained, and each one is operated by a certified and experienced BD team. You get a consistent spray rate across the full width of the road, from the first metre to the last.
Bitumen spraying services we offer
- Prime coats on new granular or stabilised base layers before surfacing
- Tack coats between asphalt layers and before overlays, so new asphalt bonds to the old
- Binder spraying for chip seals and surface treatments
- Rejuvenator application to restore oxidised, ageing asphalt and extend its life
- Crack sealing support together with our hotblow out and crackseal crews
Lab-certified products and technical support
All the bituminous products we supply meet or exceed industry standards and come with lab certification. Our team gives professional technical support on site, so the engineer and the contractor can sign off the work with confidence.
Spraying often forms part of a larger job. We combine it with hot mix asphalt supply, soil stabilising and plant hire, which means one supplier and one programme for your road works.

FAQ
Bitumen Sprayers: common questions
What is a bitumen distributor?
A bitumen distributor is a truck-mounted tank with a heated spray bar that applies bitumen, emulsion or rejuvenator evenly across a road surface at a set rate. It is used for prime coats, tack coats, seals and rejuvenation.
What is the difference between a prime coat and a tack coat?
A prime coat is sprayed on a granular or stabilised base to bind the surface and help the asphalt bond to it. A tack coat is a lighter spray between asphalt layers, or onto an existing road before an overlay, so the layers stick together.
Do you supply the bitumen product as well as the sprayer?
Yes. We supply lab-certified bituminous products and the distributor with a certified operator team, so the product and the application come from one supplier.
Which areas do you cover?
We are based in Johannesburg and work across Gauteng, and we can take on projects anywhere in South Africa and the rest of Southern Africa.
